Who We Are
Duanesburg RPC is  a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America.  We are covenantal in our view of scripture, connectional in our practice, creedal and confessional in our worship. We are committed to being faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith and obedient to the great commission.

What To Expect

When you join us for worship, expect to be greeted warmly.  We are a community of faith changed by the transforming power of Jesus Christ.  Because of that, it is our desire that you join us as we worship the one true God.  Our worship service is a blend of contemporary and traditional hymns. We place a high value on the Word of God, prayer and discipleship.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one can boast.

  - Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV.

A Deeper Look

What does God really expect of me? Part 2.  (Please visit my blog at http://kmchear1.wordpress.com/ to read Part 1.)

Have you thought about that recently?  I have.

The prophet Micah during his third message in his book answers the question ‘what does God expect of me?’ when he writes:

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  (NIV)

Micah 6:8

It is interesting that God didn’t merely say “be merciful” here.  He said love mercy.  Loving mercy is to be a pattern of life.  It is not something one is to do episodically but habitually.

The word translated “mercy” in the NIV is translated “kindness” in the ESV.  Kindness more closely captures this word.  The character trait encouraged here is to “habitually love kindness”.  Do you habitually love kindness?  Is that your first inclination when faced with difficult people and circumstances?

A wonderful picture of this kind of kindness painted for us in the story of the “Good Samaritan”.

Luke 10:30-35   Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan , as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'  (NIV)

Wow, what an example of love!  We can show this type of “loving kindness” by looking for opportunities to show kindness to people especially when they can’t return the favor.  And to people to whom indifference or even hatred is normally attributed as in this story.

Follow this example of the “good Samaritan” love showing kindness.  Look for opportunities to help especially when you may not be reciprocated.
