ELDER STREET LIGHTHOUSE
79 Elder Street
Schenectady, NY

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings
(Isaiah 58:9-12)."

OUR PURPOSE
The Lighthouse is a ministry house of DRPC. The purpose of the Lighthouse is to enable us to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the Becker/Elder street community all year round.

It is our intention to provide such not for profit services as children's Bible clubs, single mother's Bible study/support group, living nativity, rehab of widows and low-income family's homes and other such ministries as the Lord leads.

It is our goal to enlist not only the help of our congregation members and other churches in the area but especially encouraging community members to help one another.

The ultimate purpose of this ministry is to establish a Christ-centered, cross-cultural PCA church in the Becker/Elder street community that will in turn seek to reproduce throughout the Capitol District.

OUR TARGET
The diverse ethnic groups in the Becker/Elder Street community. These ethnic groups include African Americans, Guyanese, Hispanics and Caucasians among others.

OUR PLAN

First Year
Purchase the house on 79 Elder Street. Continue outreach in the neighborhood through a Living Nativity, Bible Clubs, prayer and personal evangelism. Rehabilitate the house with the help of teams/individuals from other PCA churches.

Second Year
Ribbon cutting for the Lighthouse. Begin ministries out of the Lighthouse (Bible study, prayer, other appropriate outreach ministries). Begin gathering a core group which will hopefully begin gathering for joyful, reverent worship on Sundays.

Third Year
Call an MNA cross-cultural church planter who will raise the majority of his own support. Achieve PCA mission work status.

Fourth Year
New City Fellowship of Schenectady, NY will become a self-supporting and self-governing particular congregation of the PCA which will in turn partner with other churches of the NYS Presbytery to plant other Christ-centered, cross cultural PCA churches in the Capital Region.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Pray: Pray fervently that God will gather people together from various ethnic groups as a community to joyfully worship Christ. Pray also that God would continue to supply all our needs in Christ Jesus as we step out in faith to plant an inner-city church that brings glory to his name and is a blessing to the city.

Give: Without the sacrificial giving of finances, this ministry cannot be accomplished. You can send your tax deductible gift ear-marked “Lighthouse” to:

Reformed Presbyterian Church
P.O. Box 218
Duanesburg, NY 12056.

At the end of the year you will receive a record of your tax-deductible gift.

Serve: Won’t you partner with us to make this dream a reality? We deeply appreciate all of the time, talents and resources that you are willing to share with us in this great work. Consider sending an urban ministry team from your church to work with us in this exciting pioneering ministry.

If you would like to volunteer, or have any questions, please feel free to contact Ruling Elder Chris Nally, Chairman of our Missions Team and session representative for this work.
